Not sure the car diagnosis adds up?

Ask Bad Bear reviews the available evidence behind a repair recommendation. An ASE Master Technician explains what is supported, what remains uncertain, and what information could help you decide.

Useful situations for a second opinion

  • A major repair has been recommended, but the explanation is unclear.
  • Different shops have given conflicting recommendations.
  • The original symptom remains after a repair.
  • You have trouble codes or test results and need help understanding the next questions to ask.

Evidence first, parts second

A trouble code is a clue, not a complete diagnosis by itself. A useful review considers the symptom, the conditions when it occurs, the vehicle’s history, and the tests already performed.

For example, if a replacement is recommended based only on a code, a useful question is: “What testing confirmed that this part caused the problem?” Your review helps distinguish a finding from an assumption without pretending that paperwork replaces inspection.

Help us understand the whole picture

Send the exact codes, scan reports, test results, shop notes, and any previous repair invoices relevant to the same concern. Describe when the problem happens, what changed after previous work, and what you want help deciding.

You do not need every item to request free screening. We will tell you if the information is insufficient for a useful paid review.

Common questions

Can you diagnose my car entirely online?

We can review the evidence you provide and explain its limits. We cannot physically inspect or test the vehicle, certify that it is safe, or guarantee the failed part remotely.

Can I submit a check-engine light code without a shop diagnosis?

Yes, for free screening. Include the exact code and symptoms. Whether a paid review would be useful depends on the available information; a code alone may not be enough.

What if the car might be unsafe to drive?

Stop driving and arrange an in-person inspection or tow. Do not wait for an online review to address an immediate safety concern.
